Wesan Chang solo show at York art studio of Bridgewter ~~ from Oct. 2 to Oct. 28

Wesan Chang

Age: 15

Wesan Chang always loved coloring and doodling as a child, but she didn’t start art lessons until she was 10 years old. She first began by learning how to sketch and watercolor. After two years of learning the basics, she began to learn oil painting. She started out painting simple still life and solids, but later, she found interest in painting landscapes and flowers. She loves capturing the simplicity and beauty of nature.

As she progressed, she began to test various techniques to make her paintings unique from the others. She often paints impressionist paintings. She rarely paints abstract paintings, because she enjoys painting the complex yet simple wonders of nature.

Most of her paintings are of landscapes, but they vary in many ways. Occasionally, she would paint forests and fields because they are refreshing. However, she usually paints oceans and lakes because she loves the quietness and calmness of them. She absolutely loves the peaceful atmosphere that the ocean brings her. She wishes to share her feelings and emotions with everyone through her paintings.

Another common object that she likes to paint is flowers. She has painted flowers from many different points of view. She’s painted close-up flowers, still life flowers and flowers in large fields. She likes painting close up flowers the best because she enjoys adding lots of detail and color. The intricate designs and the fragileness of flowers fascinate her. And she finds ways to express that on the canvas through her oil paints.

Her color scheme varies from different paintings as well. Her different color schemes show how she feels about the subject that she is painting. Her favorite colors are orange and pink because they are bright. She tends to use these colors when drawing flowers to make them jump out. She also uses cool colors such as blue and green in her landscape pictures to bring out the peacefulness that she tries to convey. Some of her paintings also use pastel colors. These colors are used to show either sadness or just simplicity.

Besides oil painting, she also enjoys running and playing lacrosse. She also likes to take pictures of nature and everyday life because many things in life just amaze her. However, Wesan likes oil painting the best out of the few things she does because it is relaxing and allows her to focus on just one thing.
